Two 16-year-old boys were arrested Monday on suspicion of killing a man outside the San Mateo Adult School, police said.
The 19-year-old man was shot just before 9 p.m. Friday at the Poplar Avenue campus in San Mateo.
Police suspect the teens had argued with the man and the confrontation escalated, said San Mateo Police Officer Alison Gilmore, a department spokeswoman.
Police suspect someone fired “several gunshots,” hitting the man in the torso as he sat in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle, police said. The man, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital where he died.

A shooting Sunday morning in a San Mateo RV storage lot led to one man s death, police said. A suspect, Allen Carl Runchey, a 57-year-old San Mateo resident, is in custody.
The suspect contacted San Mateo police at 11:38 a.m. Sunday to say he shot his neighbor in the chest, police said. Then police received two more calls reporting shots fired in the area of Fashion Island Boulevard and South Norfolk Street.
When officers arrived, they found a 57-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. The officers rendered first aid and CPR on the man, who was then transported by paramedics to a local trauma center, where he underwent emergency surgery. The man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, police said.
