Yunlin County breaks ground on glove puppetry art center 03/13/2021 04:42 PM CNA photo March 12, 2021 Taipei, March 13 (CNA) The Yunlin County government broke ground Friday on Taiwan s first art center dedicated to preserving the art of glove puppetry, and expects the center to open in May 2023. Glove puppetry represents part of Taiwan s image, and Yunlin is the hometown of glove puppetry, said Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-shan (張麗善) at the groundbreaking ceremony at the site in Huwei Township. The county has the largest number of registered glove puppetry groups in Taiwan 127 and three studios dedicated to the craft, Chang said, and hoped the center will help preserve and develop the traditional art and connect it with the international puppetry art world.

Russian dancers positive for virus By Lee I-chia / Staff reporter The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) yesterday reported seven imported cases of COVID-19 infection, including four members of a Russian ballet company that was originally scheduled to perform its first show in Taipei yesterday, as it extended a temporary entry ban on Indonesian migrant workers. Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who heads the center, said that all of the seven had provided a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result issued within three days of boarding a plane to Taiwan and that only one of them developed symptoms during quarantine.
