Activist Anjali Gopalan expressed disappointment with the Supreme Court s verdict refusing to recognize the legality of same-sex marriages in India. Gopalan and other activists had been fighting for the recognition of same-sex marriages and adoption rights. The court ruled against giving constitutional validity to same-sex marriages, stating that it is for Parliament to formulate legislation on the matter.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday delivered four verdicts in the same-sex marriage case. The five-judge Bench delivered a 3:2 judgment on adoption rights for queer couples.
