i m not so concerned as to where. obviously, i don t appreciate the fact that a member of the taliban would be on soil especially around 9/11 coming to new york. that to me needs to be taken into consideration. what i focus is not the where but when and how are we going to withdraw from afghanistan? i think it s prudent for us to do that. and i appreciate the president s disruptive style of at least honoring the commitment of negotiating with anyone he has to in order to keep our men and women in the military safe and sound by bringing them home. let s spend some time talking about guns. today the house judiciary committee will vote on a series of gun violence prevention measures, bank high capacity magazines, red flag legislation, a bill to prevent people convicted of misdemeanor and hate crimes when purchasing firearms. you voted against both of the house s background check bills earlier in the year. that was hr8 and hr1112. should the house pass any of those measures i outline
some of these people are facing primaries now. they have to be for impeachment but that doesn t mean the party leadership really wants to go ahead. so you had four more shootings during the congressional recess. democrats including schumer and nancy pelosi, your personal intervention is needed. you have the ability to save lives simply by indicating your support for h.r. 8. you have the unique opportunity to save lives by giving political cover to your fellow republicans. the president is not going to pass the house bill, but there is talk, and schumer and nancy pelosi says, if he is consistent, i will do something like background checks and red flag laws. as congress comes back, pressure is on the president to say, what will you do? or nothing. it s funny how they re looking to each other for leadership on this. it s so interesting, so much of
that message and to call what some 270 mayors have signed bipartisanly on a letter to say we need to pass into the senate an up other down vote on hr-8. it s very easy. we want an up or down vote on background checks, which 90% of americans agree with. 87% of gunowners in ohio agree we need universal background checks and the time is now. we don t want another city to be like dayton. you heard senator schummer there as i just played saying this is on two people. this is on president trump. this is on mitch mcconnell. you said this can be done. it can be done quickly, and it can save lives. how optimistic are you, mayor, that something can actually be done, that there can be gun reform? well, look, as a mayor you have to stay optimistic. you re optimistic for the future of your community and optimistic for the future of the country. we as mayors are hoping that
attempt to buy a house in texas. that to me sounds elitist. what i am trying to do is save lives. no other parent should feel what i feel every second of every day when i wake up what is your message to specifically senator mitch mcconnell, who is facing increasing pressure on this, and to president trump, today, right now? . well, so my message to senator mcconnell and to president trump is, you already failed. by not taking up hr-8, what happened at odessa happened and you could have stopped it by bringings this up for a vote. mcconnell is a failure. let s accept it. he needs to be fired. but i m also getting really angry at the democrats in the senate, including those running for president, who are not doing anything but speaking. so here s my plan to get hr-8 through the senate. senator schumer, you bring it up to the senate floor. call everybody in the senate to the floor. i know it vote won t count.
