the effect of obamacare is really hitting people yet. a lot of attention on the glitches and it s not functioning well. i think once people see that their premiums have gone up, that their deductibles have gone up, that they can t keep their doctor, that they can t keep their plan, i think a lot of those positions will change. and we have always said repeal and replace. we ll be rolling out a few of the republican alternatives. right now we certainly are not going to get off the dime on repealing obamacare. you ll be talking about your personal biography. i know it pretty well, being an immigrant from cuba. i m going to ask you about immigration then. where are you on this? where were you on the senate bill and what do you want to see the house do? i m in favor of the senate bill. that s not going to be happening here. i m a co-sponsor of hr-15, which is a little similar to the senate bill. in my republican response, just as when i was chairman of the committee, it s not just about
on the hill where all the action is taking place, and i think we heard a rumor you were in a meeting with dennis mcdonough the other day to talk about the going-on on capitol hill, among them immigration reform. what is the attitude among democrats in the white house about how realistic this set of principles is? and are democrats willing to accept some of this beefed-up boarder security in exchange for a plan if not to legalize undocumented workers, to give them some sort of permanent resident status in the united states? well, you know, democrats are ready to go on immigration and we have been for a long time. almost 190 democrats have signed on to hr-15, which was introduced in the fall of 2013. and that incluldes beefed-up board security, but it also includes a path to citizenship, and that will be a sticking point for republicans. we hope they can get there. we believe it should be done comp hence live because all these parts work together. what you do to one piece affects
immigration reform, why hasn t the latino american and asian american, similar situations, which ju hong was talking about, resonated with lawmakers and voters over the last year or so? well, i actually think that we are on the precipice of doing something about immigration reform. we ve finally done a budget deal, and now is the time to turn towards immigration reform. we put our hr-15, which is our comprehensive immigration bill in the house and we already have 194 sponsors, three of them are republicans. and we also know that 26 republicans have already stated that they support comprehensive immigration reform. so we believe that it can be done if a bill is put on the floor. as head of the caucus, do you see those who are watching this topic, though, congresswoman chu, as equating latino and asian americans together in this subject? no. i believe that the asian american story has not been
comprehensive reform bill. they were sitting it the house gallery which got him reprimanded, and that s when the democratic congressman stepped in. the men and women spending their time here would not have to be in those galleries advocating if this house simply took up the bill. you think they want to be spending their time here, madam speaker? is what what you think? probably traveling at their own expense to washington? and you re saying we re addressing them, and that s what you re upset about, madam speaker? i want you to address the reason that they are here! they are here because our government is tearing apart their families, madam speaker. will the gentleman from colorado understand aull members i want the speaker to understand that the speaker is obstructing hr-15 from coming to the floor. that is pretty much how a lot of us feel about the issue. wohl done. the third one takes us to northern germany where this reporter braved the powerful winds of a massive storm ep
the senate did, is not going to happen. frankly, i ll make clear, we have no intention of ever going into conference on the senate bill. come on, congressman, we have to be fair. no one in the world has ever read this bill. how can you expect it to be brought to the floor? our friends did some math, it would only take 13 hours to read the thing. that s not that long. you could read u list ease and it would take a lot longer. ultimately, this is just an excuse for the obstruction that we ve been seeing since day one in the obama administration into the newt gingrich area. you re right. it is obstruction and it s irresponsible and reckless. not only will it take 12 hours to read, it will only take 15 minutes to pass if the speaker brings it up. hr-15 would only take 15 minutes to vote on and approval if it were brought up by the speaker.
