Our challenge in hero Captain Tom s memory

STAFF at Howe Bridge Crematorium are honouring pandemic hero Captain Sir Tom Moore by raising money in his memory on what would have been his 101st birthday on April 30. Westerleigh Group, the UK’s largest independent owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries, including Howe Bridge Crematorium, is challenging staff at its 35 sites nationwide, to come up with creative ways of supporting the Captain Tom Foundation. The group has also set up a Just Giving page and is inviting anyone from the communities served by them to pay their own tribute to Sir Tom by donating, perhaps in memory of their own loved ones.

Flood warning remains in force for Norton, Malton and Old Malton

Levels in Malton peaked around 5.05m on Friday morning and river levels have fallen through the weekend.  A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: The level on the River Rye at Howe Bridge is 4.3m and is falling slowly, and in Malton the current level is 4.1m and falling. Pumps are continuing to operate in the area to manage groundwater and surface water. No significant rainfall is forecast for the next 24 hours but further unsettled weather is expected from Wednesday.  The flood warning for the River Derwent remains in force as a result of high river levels, following recent heavy rainfall. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths, leave space around pumps and around the staff operating them, and do not walk or drive through flood water.
