NEWPORT, RI A rapid coronavirus test site will open in Newport next week. Residents can get their results within 15 minutes, with no appointment necessary.
The site at 21 Brown and Howard Wharf downtown is set to open Tuesday. It will operate Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be run by the Rhode Island Department of Health and the National Guard.
Although appointments are not required, anyone visiting the site is asked to maintain social distancing. Anyone looking to get tested will be given a ticket number and asked to wait 15 to 20 minutes in their car after a nasal swab. Results will be given by number on-site, as well as on the health department s online portal. Those who test positive will be given guidance on self-quarantining and other safety measures.
Newport area residents will soon have another option to secure a rapid COVID-19 test.
The City of Newport has been informed that beginning Tuesday, January 26, the Rhode Island Department of Health and Rhode Island National Guard, will be opening a Binax Now Rapid test site at 21 Brown and Howard Wharf in downtown Newport.
The site, which was donated by Paolino Properties, will offer free asymptomatic Walk-In service from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. No appointment is necessary, however those utilizing the testing site are asked to maintain social distancing and follow the direction of the service members who may have to form them into lines.
The site will open on Tuesday, January 26, at 21 Brown and Howard Wharf in downtown Newport.
Free asymptomatic walk-in testing will be available from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Anyone who goes to be tested is asked to maintain social distancing at all times.
Those looking to be tested will be given a ticket number and will be asked to wait in their cars for about 20 minutes after being swabbed. They’ll then receive a hard cop of their results on site.
Anyone who tests positive will be given instructions on how to quarantine.
This new location is part of the RIDOH’s effort to bring COVID-19 testing to East Bay communities.
