Public defender to represent Bridgeport school board member in kidnapping case FacebookTwitterEmail 2of3 3of3 MILFORD Bridgeport school board member Christopher Taylor, accused of attempting to kidnap his wife’s 21-year-old son at gunpoint, was granted a public defender Friday after telling a judge his finances have taken a nose dive because of the pandemic. “It has been catastrophic. I didn’t qualify for any paycheck protection programs. I’ve defaulted on loans and credit cards,” Taylor told Superior Court Judge Peter Brown. The judge granted his motion and continued the case to May 11. Taylor, 51, pleaded not guilty in January 2020 to conspiracy to commit second-degree kidnapping, attempted second-degree kidnapping with a firearm, impersonation of a police officer, first-degree threatening, third-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor in a 2019 case. He asked for a jury trial and said he would represent himself.

In a short hearing Thursday, Jose Morales’ attorney, Kevin Smith, said he needs to confer with prosecutors as he resolves issues accessing some of the discovery material they provided in the case.
