Olympia London has announced a new signing with Trafalgar Entertainment, who will be taking on a 70-year lease to run a theatre with a 1,575-seat auditorium. It will be the largest new permanent theatre build of its kind to open in London since the National Theatre in 1976.
Olympia London’s redevelopment will see owners Yoo Capital and Deutsche Finance International funding over £1.3bn to expand the site. The plans have been informed by five years of research with event organisers, exhibitors and visitors whose feedback included the desire for overnight accommodation, additional onsite working spaces, more options for restaurants and bars, and pre and post-event entertainment.
Broadway and television star Sutton Foster has kept the shipboard musical Anything Goes afloat.
She has taken over from Megan Mullally, who s had to withdraw from the show bound for the Barbican, just weeks before rehearsals, because of a foot injury.
Mullally was to have starred as Reno Sweeney, the evangelist turned nightclub siren, opposite Robert Lindsay, Felicity Kendal and Gary Wilmot in Cole Porter s effervescent romantic comedy that will still begin previews from July 23.
Mullally, who won awards for her role in Will & Grace, said in a statement yesterday that she s heartbroken to miss the opportunity to work on this amazing classic musical .

West End company signs 70-year lease on new Olympia Theatre
Trafalgar Entertainment has signed a 70-year lease at the new Olympia Theatre in West London, which is scheduled to open in 2025.
The agreement, which will run for 35 years with the option to extend for a further 35, is part of a broader ambition by the live entertainment business to create a venue of national stature as the UK emerges into a post-pandemic era.
The 1,575-seat venue will be the largest new permanent theatre build of its kind to open in London since the National Theatre in 1976.
Co-founder of Trafalgar Entertainment Howard Panter, said: “Looking forward to a new golden age of theatre, Olympia presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity – it is quite simply one of the most exciting new theatres London has seen for many years and we’re delighted to be playing our part as operator.
