After nearly 2,000 students left during the COVID-19 pandemic, Howard County Schools has been keeping track of enrollment numbers, which they say are now starting to trend in the right direction.The return to the classroom was limited and took place late in the school year for some Howard County students. By then, a number of families, frustrated with virtual learning, had already placed their children in private school or chose to homeschool.“We re up now about 400 students from where we were last year at this time,” Howard County Public Schools Superintendent Michael Martirano said.Martirano said that s based on summer kindergarten registration data.“That s a very hopeful sign that we are rebounding based upon the hard evidence.
