NJ labor shortage: Why some unemployed are not leaping at job offers

Asbury Park Press It s been more than a year since Ken Gaughran lost his job in radio promotions due to the pandemic, and he is slowly losing hope of getting back into that field. So in recent months, the 27-year-old Toms River resident has searched for employers that offer a decent wage and benefits, all while wondering how long he can wait before he needs to search for a restaurant or retail job. We all had our careers, now what are we going to do? Gaughran said. They re gone. That s been the toughest part. If Gaughran sounds confused, he s not alone. COVID lawsuit protections may be given to HOAs if Phil Murphy OKs it

Asbury Park Press TRENTON - The Assembly Thursday approved a bill that would protect homeowner association boards against civil lawsuits in case a resident or guest is exposed to COVID-19 while  using the community s amenities. The 74-0 vote puts associations closer to reopening clubhouses, fitness rooms, swimming pools and more that have been shut down since the pandemic hit the state in March 2020. The Assembly joins the Senate, which approved the bill 36-0 June 3. The legislation still needs Gov. Phil Murphy s signature. With COVID cases falling and vaccinations on the rise, New Jersey has been granting the go-ahead to reopen everything from movie theaters to bars.
