COVID-19 2nd Wave: Edo records 29 new cases Health Ministry On Kindly Share This Story: The Edo Government on Friday said that it has recorded 29 new cases of COVID-19 and 16 recoveries in the second wave of the pandemic. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Osamwonyi Irowa, disclosed this on Friday in Benin, while briefing newsmen on the impact of the second wave of COVID-19 in the state. Irowa said a total of 32 deaths have been recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic in the state, but no death was recorded in the last 24 hours. According to him, Edo in the last 24 hours recorded 29 new confirmed cases, with no deaths and 16 recoveries.

The State’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Zahra’u Muhammad-Umar, made the disclosure while repatriating the beggars in Kano on Friday. Muhammad-Umar said that the beggars were arrested in Kano metropolis with 70 per cent being women and children, and 30 per cent men. “Those arrested included women, children, men and Almajiris. The children don’t go to school and have no good food to eat,” she said.

Kaduna schools to resume February 1

The reopening of school, it said followed an extensive appraisal of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state and series of consultations with relevant stakeholders of both state and Federal Health and education sectors. The Permanent Secretary in the state ministry of education, Phoebe Sukai-Yayi, in a statement, said government has also approved Primary 6, 5 and 4 of Private Schools only, to resume on the same day. She also disclosed that schools would run shift to enable them to meet with the guidelines, noting that “the first shift will run from 08:00 am – 12:00noon while the second shift will be from 01:00 pm – 05:00 pm.”
