People Who Are Doing More than Ted Cruz to Help Texans
What a crazy week this has been in Texas. The winter freeze has left many Texans cold and in the dark. Luckily, Texans are always a good example of our state motto: friendship, and are pretty good at helping each other out during a crisis. Unfortunately for us, that person is certainly not Ted Cruz. Here are seven people who are doing way more than Ted Cruz to help out Texans.

That s right, the guy who lost to Cruz in the 2018 midterm election got to work and ran a virtual phone bank to contact senior citizens in Texas, to connect them with resources during the disaster.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) For over six hours, a long line of people in search of shelter stood huddled together waiting for the doors of the George R. Brown convention center to open.
Many said because of COVID-19 there was no room in other shelters and that this was their last hope to find warmth before the temperatures plummet Sunday night.
A staffing delay pushed the opening from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. As Houston prepares for a serious winter storm, the city s most vulnerable are just looking for a place to get warm.

Houston, Jim Mattress Mack McIngvale opened his Gallery Furniture stores at 6006 North Freeway and 7227 West Grand Parkway South in Richmond as warming centers for those in the cold. McIngvale did a similar move after residents needed a place to stay in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
While officials said the George R. Brown Convention Center was opened for people who are homeless and needed a place to stay, it has since reached the maximum capacity of 200 people. Now, closer to 800 people are being sheltered there. Instead, the mayor s office is asking that people call the city s 311 line to find out what facilities are open.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) Patricia Stephenson has always cared about our homeless population here in Houston.
About 9 months ago, she made a trip downtown to help out. Since then, her outreach efforts have grown by just word of mouth.
Today, Stephenson and her now-small group of volunteers, known as Team Jesus, passed out blankets and clothes to help people who have nowhere to go and no place to stay warm. Hundreds of homeless were loved because of all the donations and volunteers you sent downtown, Stephenson wrote on Facebook.
