South Texas folklorist Hernán Moreno Hinojosa has told many a creepy tale about purported ghosts and phantoms that roam the Brush Country between Corpus Christi and Laredo and just north of the Rio Grande. He writes about them in his books with a daredevil spirit of discovery and certainty that these manifestations are more than just a person’s impression or imagination, but true-to-life occurrences that make us shiver when we hear or see things we cannot explain.
