This snake robot will fix pipelines on the ocean floor CNN 3/4/2021 By Adrian Lydon, CNN Business © Eelume Subsea Intervention The snake-like Eelume robot can be docked underwater for months at a time. The deep-sea oil and gas industry has a vast and costly infrastructure to maintain. Wells, other equipment, and thousands of kilometers of pipeline must be installed, inspected and repaired. Now, cutting-edge underwater drones and robots are being developed that could make the work safer, cheaper and less polluting. Among them is Eelume, a six-meter-long, snake-like robot kitted out with sensors and a camera at each end. It can be kept at a docking station at depths up to 500 meters (547 yards) for six months, without being brought back to the surface.

Some of them are just plain weird. Across the world, scientists are at work developing all kinds of mind-boggling machinery and bizarre AI. In the last few years alone, roboticists have unveiled a sassy android, a shape-shifting submarine, and a device that allows fish and bees to speak to each other. From cuddle machines to worm-powered Lego, here are ten of the weirdest robots ever built.
