MUNCIE, Ind. As COVID-19 brought the world to a halt in 2020; closing down thousands of businesses and postponing in-person events, many found themselves working remotely and isolating at home.
For those involved in social services, the work never stopped. In fact, it became more needed than ever.
With a homeless population in the hundreds and a poverty rate sitting at 31% as of 2019, Muncie is home to various organizations that work to provide food, clothing and shelter to those in need.
These organizations, including the YWCA, Muncie Mission and Bridges Community Services, typically work face-to-face with some of the most vulnerable populations on a daily basis. As COVID-19 entered Indiana a year ago, each had to adapt quickly in order to stay open, but still protect staff and clients from a deadly virus.
