The minister for Social Development and Housing says improving living conditions for seniors in government housing is one of its top priorities. Meanwhile, seniors say they are tired of promises and want to see more action from the province.
After 18 days of debate, the fall sitting of the P.E.I. legislature came to a close Thursday. Among the 21 bills passed was the Residential Tenancy Act, a rewrite of the province’s 30-year-old law governing residential rentals in the province.
P.E.I.'s Standing Committee on Health and Social Development which is also responsible for oversight of public safety in the province delivered 10 recommendations after a series of emergency meetings on the province’s response to post-tropical storm Fiona.
P.E.I.’s Minister of Housing says his department has begun hiring more staff to perform maintenance at government-owned housing complexes, trying to catch up on years of underfunding and neglect of units the government rents out to some of the poorest residents in the province.
