Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said that institutional investors purchasing large portions of housing estates is unacceptable and runs counter to the Government s aim to give priority to first time buyers .
The Taoiseach told the Dáil that he discussed the issue with the Ministers for Finance, Public Expenditure and Housing after investors made large purchases in estates in counties Dublin and Kildare over the weekend.
He was replying to Social Democrats co-leader Catherine Murphy, who said there was an urgency about the matter as the country was reaching the point of no return .
She said the international investors were being advantaged by the Government because they were not subject to stamp duty or corporation tax.

AN BORD PLEANALA has given the green light to contentious plans for a 297 unit shared co-living scheme on the site of Phibsborough shopping centre.
The appeals board has granted planning permission despite Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald TD arguing that to grant planning permission for the scheme would be “intolerable”.
The objection by McDonald was one of just under 20 that were lodged with An Bord Pleanala against the scheme on Dublin’s northside by the owners of the Phibsborough shopping centre, MM Capital.

RICHARD BARRETT’S BARTRA Capital has secured planning permission for its fourth shared co-living space scheme for the capital.
This follows An Bord Pleanala granting planning permission for the €40 million proposal in spite of Green Party Minister Roderic O’Gorman being one of two current TDs to lodge objections against the shared co-living 210 bed space project for Castleknock.
