Montville Dakota Partners has at last secured approval of its flood management certification application for a planned 72-unit housing development on Pink Row at the former Faria Beede Mill property.
On Tuesday, Dakota Marketing Director Katie Cardillo offered an official statement on the news from the company, noting that construction should resume in the spring of this year. The Flood Management Certification will be issued after the expiration of the 30-day public notice, which should be around the end of February, the statement reads. The 30-day public notice was required as this project needed exemptions from certain state rules, which regulate building in a 500-year floodplain. The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection conditionally approved the permit, based on our satisfaction of design changes requested. Once the Flood Management Certification is issued, the project can be re-started.
Groton The town of Groton was awarded a $344,705 state grant to extend the G&S Trolley Trail and provide more opportunities for people to bike in the Poquonnock Bridge section of town.
The grant will allow the Town of Groton to extend the path to provide a safe connection to Sutton Park and Route 1. Currently, the multi-use path is accessible from Bluff Point State Park and Haley Farm State Park to Knoxville Court, according to the Groton Parks and Recreation Department. We re really excited about the project, Town Manager John Burt said. We re committed to expanding nonmotorized transportation wherever possible. Parks and Rec, Planning, and Public Works all collaborated on this and did a fantastic job.
Groton The developer of a proposed mixed-use development at the Mystic Education Center property will hold an “open house” format virtual meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday to update people on the project and answer questions.
Groton Planning and Development Director Jon Reiner said the developer, Respler Homes, plans to give a presentation on the status of the project and will be available to address questions and concerns.
“Participation by all is encouraged,” a notice states. “Respler Homes and their development team will provide an update and answer questions regarding Mystic River Bluffs. All meeting attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of both Respler Homes and team members about any aspect of the approval process and the project as it is currently envisioned.”

Waterford Last Sunday, Crystal Mall s interior was almost as quiet and sparsely populated as its parking lot. Macy’s recently had announced it would be closing its mall location, and placards denoting 25%, 40%, 50%, sometimes 60% off dotted the store and the clearance sale wasn t scheduled to start until the next day.
Families, couples, solo shoppers and the customary groups of high schoolers meandered around the mall in search of deals or, as some said, in an attempt to prevent boredom.
Many stores in the mall have adopted limited hours since the COVID-19 pandemic began, if not closed entirely, leaving the future of the mall in question.
