it has not been working very well. it s been a dysfunctional place. the old days have been gone forever, and i think it might be time to change. i m a house guy, and so i love to lecture the senate how they should change the rules. that s kind of my deal. the fact is to say that the senate has been working pretty well, i think, is really giving too much credit to the senate. oh, go ahead. i was just going to say, also, i mean, majority of the nominees, you know, for the supreme court have pasd wh about three-quarters of the senate support. you know, it is the case that neil gorsuch i think with the exception of clarence thomas, i mean, so he is not if you look at just at the numbers, he is not even meeting the basic threshold pneumonia airically that other nominees have made both in republican and democratic administrations. so, john, mcconnell says that democrats will never agree on any nominee that comes from president trump. can you see a future where they can get back to
the replace package. i think we can do better than the current system. that s the point. when he joins us now from capitol hill, the point of this is hhs. what are you hearing about where he stands on it? the most interesting dynamic of all with a long time house guy. he hez close relationships. he has been holed up preparing for the hearing. they expect a lot of fireworks and when you talk to house lawmakers as well, they point to tom price at hhs as being one of the crucial components. he can do a lot over there whether it s dealing with the subsitties and trying to ease the burden and he he appears to be their ally.
current system and that s the point. phil mattingly joins us from capitol hill. the point person in all of this is tom price, his pick to run hh, s. where does he stand on it? reporter: he s a long time house guy, a member of congress, very close relationships with congressional leadership. by all accounts he s been holed up preparing for his confirmation hearing where there are expected to be a lot of fireworks tomorrow. when you talk to house lawmakers and some senate lawmakers as well quietly they point to tom price as being one of the crucial components of their repeal plan. he can do a lot unilaterally there, whether dealing with the subsidies, relationships with the insurance companies, trying to ease the burden and frankly rewriting a lot of the rules that dictate the affordable care act. he has a lot of power on his own. at least at this point, anderson, he appears at least to the guys in the house, to be their ally. i think big question is, as you know, where does he come
you can like paul ryan s budget or dislike it. but what happened this year in paul ryan s budget is that the main changes made to it were made to look more like mitt romney s budget. he changed his medicare plan to look like mitt romney s plan. there was a convergence in the plbl party right now. let s talk about that. the washington post has the vp question, some see a golden ticket in romney and ryan, and there s a long article in the front section about their tour of wisconsin together and how it s fuelling running mate talk. and, joe, do you think that mitt romney affiliating himself so closely with paul ryan is actually helpful to his case? it s helpful to conservatives. it certainly is helpful to people that vote in wisconsin primaries. i like paul ryan very much. paul ryan will not be the vice presidential selection of mitt romney for a variety of reasons. he is a house guy. he does very well in a swing district. but can he win statewide? does he bring him the entire
