NEW ORLEANS The Mardi Gras house float decorations have been coming down, but more green is going up! People in New Orleans are now decorating their homes for St. Patrick s Day. The new trend is called Shamrock Our Blocks. They re so creative, just beautiful, said Angela Timberlake who is helping organize efforts in New Orleans. A lot of rainbows and leprechauns, lots of green lights, tons of gold.

The Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Club has canceled the Irish Channel Parade for the second year in a row as the coronavirus continues community spread. Additionally, the annual block party at Annunciation Playground benefiting St. Michael Special School is canceled.
But New Orleanians have found a way to celebrate, along with some Irish and Irish-at-heart brethren in Chicago. Shamrock Our Blocks, the brainchild of the Chicago’s Southside Irish Parade Organization, is applying the Yardi Gras concept to St. Patrick’s Day.

NEW ORLEANS (press release) –
To celebrate one year until Mardi Gras Day and what’s anticipated to be a return to pre-coronavirus festivities, Camellia Brand, TABASCO Brand Pepper Sauce, Cajun Country Rice and the New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute (NOCHI) will be distributing complimentary red beans and rice starter kits on Monday, March 1. All are welcome to pick up a kit outside of NOCHI (725 Howard Ave.) from 11 a.m. until supplies run out.
Each red beans and rice starter kit will include a one-pound bag of Camellia Brand red kidney beans, a one-pound bag of Cajun Country Long Grain Rice and a five-ounce bottle of TABASCO Sauce in a customized tote bag. The kits
