Of the 26,834 homeless children enrolled in Michigan public schools, about 13 percent live in shelters or transitional housing, according to the latest data from the National Homeless Center for Homeless Education.

Pomona College program redistributes food to local community

After a three-year hiatus during the pandemic, Claremont Colleges student organization Food Recovery Network, which provides leftover dining hall food to people in need, recently relaunched.  “The big goal for is, one, to help feed people in the local community that need the help and, two, to reduce the amount of food waste going in the landfill,” said Pomona College Campus Executive Chef Travis Ellis.

Yet all seven bills failed to advance in the Statehouse despite broad support from employer and welfare groups as well as lawmakers of both parties.
