(Keith Bacongco / FILE PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) Marius reviewed the developments in the region Monday before the House Committee on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity covering the period March 2019 to October 2020. “A lot has been achieved during this period. The TPMT is pleased to note that the peace process in Mindanao is fundamentally on track,” Marius told the panel, chaired by Maguindanao Rep. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu, during a briefing on Zoom. “The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region has been established as an autonomous political entity and the foundation for meaningful self-governance in the Bangsamoro and the parliamentary form of government has been put in place and this in itself is a very big achievement. This, in spite of temporary suspension of parliamentary sessions in Cotabato as a result of the coronavirus pandemic,” the TPMT member said.

PH credibility in Mindanao peace process could take a hit, solon warns

Published December 14, 2020, 9:10 PM Lanao del Norte 1st District Rep. Khalid Dimaporo is worried that the Philippine government’s credibility in the peace process might suffer if it fails to ensure that all secessionist rebels who want to join the national police force won’t get accommodated. Lanao del Norte Rep. Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo (FACEBOOK/MANILA BULLETIN) Dimaporo aired this concern Monday during a virtual briefing of the House Committee on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity. “I’m from Lanao del Norte so I hear the rumors going around. What we want to mitigate is misinformation. Because in the BOL (Bangsamoro Organic Law), it provides an option – lahat ng mga MILF (all Moro Islamic Liberation Front) combatants can join the police. That’s there,” he said.
