Lawmakers have been notified of a possible attack by Boko Haram insurgents on the National Assembly complex and other public buildings in Abuja, The PUNCH has learnt.
Several members of the House of Representatives, on Wednesday confirmed to our correspondent that they had been notified of the imminent attack by the terrorist group.
One of them, who is from a state in the South-West, said his presence would henceforth be limited on the premises.
“That is the security alert I saw today. I’m already moving out of here. I’ll only be around when there is a major reason to do so. Nowhere is safe in the country anymore,” he said.

We have a leader in the state, that is the former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, he is the party leader. As I’m talking to you now, there are many people who are aspiring to be the governor of Zamfara State. I think they are more than five. And at the end of the day, only one of them will emerge victorious. So even if the governor comes he may be number six or seven. So it is not even an issue.

Amidst the growing banditry and insurgency in the country, governorship aspirant in Zamfara State and immediate past House Committee on Internal Security, Honourable Aminu Sani Jaji has called for the establishment of a Special Fund to be dedicated to combat the scary security situation.
Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, Honourable Jaji said the fund should be jointly managed by both chambers of the National Assembly and the Presidency and be dedicated to arms procurement.
He said: “The National Assembly has a lot to do, in tackling this issue of insecurity. If you look at the budget of all the security agencies in Nigeria, it is too small to tackle the current security challenges. So the National Assembly has to do something.

A former governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Rep Aminu Sani Jaji, has refuted claims that a former governor of the state, Abdulaziz Yari, gave the Senator Kabiru Marafa-led defunct faction of the party N100 million to collapse its structure into the mainstream APC in the state.
Jaji, a former chairman, House Committee on Internal Security who was a key player in the Marafa faction, told newsmen yesterday in Abuja that the claim was a campaign of calumny aimed at de-marketing APC in the state ahead of the 2023 elections.
