Deputies called to help man attempting suicide at commuter lot
Deputies recently located a suicidal man and connected him with mental health providers.
On Tuesday, January 19 at 6:19 p.m., deputies were dispatched to an attempted suicide at the Mine Road commuter lot. The witness reported observing a parked vehicle with a hose running from the exhaust pipe into the vehicle’s window. When the witness tried to make contact at the vehicle, the suicidal subject put the vehicle in gear and drove away.
The witness provided the vehicle’s license plate number and deputies began searching the area and the address of the registered owner. Deputy G.P. McCaulley was able to determine the identity of the suicidal subject and several deputies assisted in following up on leads.

A man from Saint-André, near Grand Falls, is dead following a workplace accident at the Suncor Base Plant mine north of Fort McMurray, Alta., according to family members.
Patrick Poitras, 25, was operating a dozer that fell through ice on an inactive tailings pond around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
He was working for Christina River Construction.
Suncor confirmed the accident in an email to CBC News and said the person is still unaccounted for as of Thursday, and didn t release the individual s identity.

Staff at Portlaoise hospital have reverted to a surge system in the face of the Covid-19 third wave which has driven up admissions to the hospital and its intensive care unit.
As the hospital faces unprecedented pressure due to the Christmas New Year spread, it has had to reconfigure to ensure it can provide potentially life-saving care. Part of this has this has seen the hospital expand its critical care capacity.
Management has confirmed that this means reverting to a system set up in 2020 when the pandemic first hit.
