New Houghton Hospital in New Ross is taking a lead in a new national hand hygiene programme, which includes urging relatives of patients to take action to ensure cleanliness in hospital settings.
Residents and staff at nursing homes across Wexford will begin receiving the Covid-19 vaccination from January 13 of next year.
This news comes as Wexford continues to experience a surge in Covid-19 cases. On Sunday, December 27 a further 40 positive cases in the county were confirmed by the HSE, meaning Wexford retained the second highest 14 day incidence rate in Ireland with 348.6.
The first batch of the Pfizer vaccine arrived in Ireland on Saturday and vaccinations will begin in hospitals today. However, those residing in nursing homes will have to wait a little longer.
Abbeygale House in Wexford town will be the first in the county to receive its consignment of vaccinations on Wednesday, January 13, with residents and staff in Cherry Grove Nursing Home in New Ross receiving theirs a day later.
