State launches investigation after nearly 100 cases linked to Placer County youth hoops league

The state’s public health department launched an investigation into a Placer County basketball league after nearly 100 coronavirus infections were linked to youth basketball tournaments hosted by the league last month, in violation of health orders.
Health officials identified 94 cases of the virus across three counties stemming from a basketball tournament Nov. 7 and 8, the Santa Clara County Public Health Department said Friday. At least 77 of those cases involve players and coaches who traveled from Santa Clara County to Placer County to participate in the tournament.
