Alamitos Associates, the company that owns the historic building, is working to get parts to fix the iconic clock that adorns the First National Bank of Long Beach in Downtown Long Beach. The company hopes it will be up and running again by October or early November.
The hotel’s main draw in those early days when Long Beach was a dry town, was its license to sell alcohol, and the mostly vacant hostelry stayed afloat on booze as well as food from its dining room.
A May 1, 1922, ad in the Long Beach Telegram warned, “There will not be enough apartments for everyone some will be disappointed. Don’t let it be you.”
