According to the most recent rich list, his family fortune was worth £345 million – but after one of the most difficult years in the history of the travel industry, the pandemic has badly impacted even the multimillionaire owner of luxury hotels like Brown’s in London and The Balmoral in Edinburgh.
What was once described as the premier hotel in Cornwall has been sold under a guide price of £2.5 million. The sale of the Meudon Country House Hotel, between Maenporth in Falmouth and Mawnan Smith, marks the end of a 57-year ownership by the Pilgrim family. When the hotel went on the market in July it was under a guide price of £2.5 million, with the five-bedroom Bream House, in a private position on the headland, available by separate negotiation. Retail estate advisor Savills said the purchase encompassed both properties, off a combined guide price of £3.5 million. It added that, working on behalf of private clients, it had now completed the sale to Kingfisher Resorts Meudon Limited.
