Rajneel Kumar, the official driver of a prominent government minister, appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday charged with four offences, three related to driving offences and one related to drugs.
Mr Kumar of Sakoca, Tacirua, was remanded in custody by magistrate Peni Dalituicama.
He was charged with one count each of unlawful possession of controlled equipment, failure to comply with orders, failure to obey traffic direction and dangerous driving.
He was driving a ministerial government vehicle last Thursday night and failed to stop at the Martintar checkpoint, Nadi and was later arrested at the Hotel Capricorn by police.

The suspect failed to stop at Martintar checkpoint and was later arrested at Hotel Capricorn after being followed by Police. Meanwhile a total of five people were arrested in the last 48 hours. Three people were found loitering along Robertson Road during curfew hours on Tuesday and two cases that were recorded last night in the Western Division including the government driver. The other arrest involved a 19-year-old woman was found walking along Kermode Road in Lautoka at around midnight. Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said checkpoints around the country will continue tonight as they will monitor all movements during curfew hours.
