HBAA selects chosen charities for 2021 | Conference News

The Hotel Booking Agents Association (HBAA) has announced that it will be supporting EventWell and Buses4Homeless as its charitable social enterprises for 2021. This initiative comes as part of the association’s strategy, aligned to resilience and ethics, as two of its four pillars. EventWell is dedicated to cultivating better mental health and wellbeing, supporting and serving professional and business members and the industry community with the knowledge and tools they need to stay well . More than a dozen MPs and over 100 event industry executives have signed a letter to the chancellor of the exchequer Rishi Sunak, copying in prime minister Boris Johnson, calling for him to implement a Government-backed insurance scheme for festival, live music and events or face them disappearing from our fields and cities for good. The letter, written by DCMS Committee chair Julian Knight MP, follows the 5 January opening hearing of the Committee’s inquiry into the future of UK music festivals, during which festival operators emphasised the urgent need for Government support. At a crucial point in festival planning schedules, MPs warn that organisers and investors are unable to risk repeating losses sustained in 2020 unless events can be insured against cancellation.

A MAJOR employer has let 40 per cent of its staff go due to the effect of the coronavirus pandemic on its finances. Inntel, which is based at the Threshelfords Business Park in Feering, has announced the move in a bid to cut costs. The firm, considered to be the UK’s largest independent meetings and travel management company, would not say how many employees were affected. However, information online suggests the company employs more than 100 people. Chief executive officer Douglas O Neill said the firm had been forced into taking drastic action due to the huge impact coronavirus has had on the industry.
