[ gunshot ] reporter: gary tuckman, cnn, los angeles. based on all the experts we hear from in gary s piece and the ones we talk to, it never should have happened. never. there were multiple layers of security in place that should have been there to prevent that gun from ever being able to go off and kill somebody. there should be no bullets on set. also, there s a difference between a prop dgun and a gun that accepts bullets, right? there should be prop guns that don t even accept bullets into the chamber. what a tragedy. yeah.
what more can you tell us about that? dave hols, he worked on freedom s path in 2019. julia jones got some explosive reporting. the production company said he was fired because a gun accidentally misfired. it didn t physically injury someone, but one of the crew members, he had some hearing loss and some hearing issues because of that. he was terminated that day. now, dave hols did not respond to cnn s request for comment, neither did rust production. dave w dave was someone who shouldn t have been out there on productions. thank you very much. keep us posted. i will. this morning, we re getting show and tell from a hollywood expert on how gunfire is
he thought that they were trying to do too much with too small of a budget. and the one thing that really bothered him was that when he asked for two aassistants, one o be in charge of the guns, another to help him with the props, they said, no, they wanted that to be filled with one person. the gun person would have to also help out with props. he found that that was a red flag. yeah. also, as you said, filming on this movie has halted completely. obviously, there is an internal investigation. there is also an investigation by the sheriff s office. will this movie see the light of day? it doesn t look likely. i have to say, if that gun, if it turns out the gun wasn t used for target practice, it increases the legal liability for a whole number of people, not to mention the people who shot the gun, the people who were supposed to oversee the gun, how it got off the set to begin with. a whole lot of questions there. there are also questions about the assistant director.
baldwin s hands ended up fatally shooting the cinematographer and wound being the director. this is what the founder we learned today and reported exclusively that the gun that alec baldwin used to tragically, accidentally shoot haylna hutchins had been used earlier in the day with target practice. there s a lot of down time on sets. you probably know this. there is this pastime that crew members flin plinking. they shoot at beer cans. this is live ammunitions. this is the day that haylna hutchins was killed. we have new information about dave hols, the assistant director. he was fired in 2019 after a crew member was injured in another gun safety incident. production of rust is on hold
