manufacturing, construction, financial services, health care, retailing, leisure and hospitali hospitality. the only sector that s laying off, big sector that s laying off is state and local government because of their severe financial problems. the breadth of the job growth, for me, is the most encouraging aspect of the data we re getting. yet if you ask people in our polling, as we do, eight in ten americans say they think the economy is in poor shape. how much does that, a lack of consumer confidence, long-term confidence, pull the economy back some? yeah, that is an issue. it is a problem. this lack of confidence sentiment. and it goes to the fact that we dug ourselves a very deep hole in the great recession. while we re digging ourselves out, we have a long way to go. the unemployment rate is 9%. people sense that. they still feel very uncomfortable. and their discomfort is one of the reasons why it s hard for this economy to get going. it s kind of a chicken and egg problem.
