This February, the Airdrie and District Hospice Society will be hosting an online auction and comedy night to bring some laughter to the community.
The event, which is called Humour for Hospice, will feature the award-winning comedian Jebb Fink who is well-known for writing and performing on Just For Laughs.

“We planned this virtual social gathering to bring a little light and laughter into people’s lives at a time when they may be feeling very lonely and isolated,” said Lise Blanchette, executive director of Airdrie Hospice.
MISSION, B.C. A Fraser Valley community is rallying to ensure services at a hospice aren’t jeopardized. Mission Hospice Society, which which provides comfort services at the Christine Morrison Hospice on the third floor of Mission Memorial Hospital, is worried it could lose beds. The society wants assurances from Fraser Health that won’t happen. The society’s executive director says the concern began with a call from Fraser Health, during which the health authority indicated it intended to temporarily take five of the hospice’s 10 beds for medical overflow patients. “I expressed my concerns with that because medical care and hospice care are two completely separate things,” Angel Elias told CTV News Vancouver. “As well, we’re on a slippery slope. Once Fraser Health starts using and utilizing those beds for medical (purposes) …there will be another excuse of why they need to use them instead of allowing them back for hospice use.”
Special Dinner being hosted to raise funds for Prince George Hospice Society

Tickets for a special dinner package on December 29th and 30th will be available until 11:59 pm tonight (Dec 23rd).
“Originally it started because I was going to be competing in Boogie with the Stars for the Hospice Society but then it was cancelled,” explained Sampson.
Five dollars from each $35 ticket will go to the Prince George Hospice Society.
“It’s still important to raise money for such an important cause just because the event is not happening doesn’t mean they don’t still need help this time of year,” said Sampson.

In the new year, the Airdrie and District Hospice Society will be offering a new online grief support program.
The program will run from January 7 to February 21, 2021 at no cost to those grieving a loved one. Meetings will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 7:45 pm.

“We thought January was a good time to start this program because a lot of people find it difficult to get through the holidays, especially with not being able to get together with family,” said Lisa Blanchette, executive director of the Airdrie and District Hospice Society.
