St Joseph Strikes Record Handle | Standardbred Canada

Saturday (July 17), was better than a comeback from 2020’s pandemic-impacted racing season. In fact, the Circuit régional des courses de chevaux du Québec (CRCCQ) made the move to online wagering for the first time in 30 years of racing at St. Joseph de Lepage (SJLP). And what a move it was. The 11 races were available for betting on Canada’s Horseplayer Interactive (HPI) and TwinSpires in the USA. Instead of the regular AmTote trackside wagering, organizers decided to make the races available to a larger audience. As CRCCQ spokesperson Manon Gravel noted, “The timing was perfect to try HPI, as the quality of horses on the track was great. People from all over the province and the country could see the performances. SJDL is about six hours from Montréal, so this was a great opportunity to see the Circuit Régional and to place bets.”

Bain Expands Lead In Challenge | Standardbred Canada

Nathan Bain is looking to take a stranglehold on the $500 Hiawatha Horse Park Handicapping Challenge. He outscored rival Nicholas “Ace” Barnsdale 78 points to 63 in Saturday, July 17th action at the Sarnia, Ontario oval. Bain clicked with 5 of his 12 top selections on the day, including Best Bet Pickles On Top ($2.80), who took race seven in a sparkling 1:55.2f for leading driver Marc St Louis. Last year s Leamington Youth Handicapping Challenge champ tallied points in 10 of the 12 races. Barnsdale, who selected the most winners in the New Year s Eve USHWA Youth Handicapping Challenge, correctly forecasted four Hiawatha winners Saturday, also going with Pickles On Top as his Best Bet.
