HORNELL The Hornell Fire Department has a new call man.
The City of Hornell’s Board of Public Safety on Thursday approved the appointment of Matthew Graham, of Beech Street. Graham currently serves as a volunteer firefighter in South Hornell.
“He’s a great kid with a lot of enthusiasm and a great worker,” said Hornell Fire Chief Frank Brzozowski. “I think he’ll be a good asset.”
Those hires brought the 23-member department essentially to full strength, but a few firefighters are scheduled for retirements in the coming months.
Brzozowski said Graham joining the department as a call man will “keep him in the huddle” moving forward.

HORNELL The City of Hornell is joining other municipalities in renaming familiar streets and neighborhoods in honor of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as the team prepares for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
On Friday, a Hornell Department of Works crew installed a Josh Allen Street sign where an Allen Street sign usually hangs.
“No coincidence there with the placement,” commented Hornell Mayor John Buckley.
The mayor credited Crosby Street resident Kevin White with coming up with the sign and suggesting that the city show its support for the AFC Eastern Division champs in advance of Sunday’s big showdown in K.C.
