The Horn Book Magazine and The Horn Book Guide are the most distinguished journals in the field of children’s and young adult literature and the core of our company. Founded in 1924 by Bertha Mahony to herald the best in children’s literature, more than eighty-five years later, we are still following her lead.
The 2021 Boston Globe–Horn Book Honor Book Award for Fiction and Poetry is presented to authors Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam and illustrator Omar T. Pasha for Punching the Air published by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins.

Today is my sixty-fifth birthday, and my present to myself (and maybe some of you!) is my retirement from the role of Editor in Chief of the Horn Book, Inc., effective December 31 of this year. Why? Because I’ve been at it for more than twenty-five years and it’s time for someone else to have a turn.
