The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is having its 20th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.
The DEA and other law enforcement agencies will collect tablets, capsules and other prescription medication from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at sites in El Paso, no questions asked. Liquids and needles won t be accepted.
Drug overdose deaths have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, the DEA reported, citing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 87,200 people in the U.S. overdosed during the 12-month period ending Sept. 1, the most ever recorded in a 12-month period, the DEA said.
“The latest overdose numbers are very concerning,” Kyle W. Williamson, special agent in charge of the DEA El Paso Division, said in a statement. We must work together to address this health crisis.
