Kids Hope USA to host online celebration Sentinel Staff WEST MICHIGAN To commemorate its 25th year mentoring thousands of elementary and middle school students, Kids Hope USA will host an online celebration in May. Kids Hope USA is a national nonprofit that was founded in West Michigan in 1995. Since then, volunteer mentors from area churches have connected weekly, one-on-one, with students to provide extra support and encouragement from a consistent adult. The organization has grown from an initial group of three church/school partnerships to nearly 1,200 partnerships in 39 states, mentoring about 10,000 children each week.  Before COVID-19, children and mentors met in school buildings for about an hour during the school day. During these meetings, friendships would be formed by talking,completing schoolwork, playing games or other creative activities.
