Larry Allan Barnes Jr.
WILMINGTON Mr. Larry Allan Barnes Jr., 69, died Thursday, March 4, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Joni Lewis Barnes for 34 years. He was born Dec. 12, 1951, in Wilmington to Larry Allan Sr. and Rose Pargeter Barnes.
Larry was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served with distinction during the Vietnam War, in Vietnam and other Asian countries. He was honorably discharged, then returned to Wilmington.
He began working as a marine surveyor, then started his own successful marine surveying company, inspecting ships and cargoes at major ports along the Atlantic coast. He retired in 2018.
After his family, dogs and cats, his greatest joy was serving as scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troop 237. He led the troop for more than 10 years, with several of his scouts achieving the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow, achieving the Vigil rank, which is the highest.
