Room is named irving brier i knew. I am 81. I was friends with his son steve and used to go to the brier house on the weekends. I was from the midwest. On holidays i didnt have anyplace to go. Irving brier, the man you named the room after used to espouse social justice and the importance of highquality Public Education. He used to lecture his boys, who you may know are you now prominent judges in the country and me who is not that, but i was there to receive the lecture many times about those messages. Highquality Public Education and social justice. He said those are the keys to the health of American Society and San Francisco society. By chance, because i didnt know we were going to be in this room. I didnt know about the plaque. By chance, that is wha what thee values are of the board of directors. There are about 20 of us. The city must make amend for the past injustice with support for education, housing and economical opportunity. Martin luther king said the arc of a moral universe is long but it bends toward love, compassion, mercy and justice. Within the handbook it already says it can be a justifiable personal reason. The school board previously read that and said that students have to go with their parents. If parents have to decide to say that my parent is sick, thats not equitable. Not all parents have the same ability to figure that out. I know that there were more privileged students whose parents were able to excuse them. More most students felt that they were intimidated and not able to go.
