This weekend in lieu of NCAA Division III National Championships, the Wartburg Knights won three national titles in replacement events.
On KWAY Country you heard Wartburg dominate the NWCA National Wrestling Championships. Team scores were not kept officially, but the Knights were the top scoring team. Wartburg’s David Hollingsworth won an individual title at 157 pounds and Kyle Briggs pinned all but one opponent on his way to a 174 pound title.
The Wartburg College men’s and women’s track & field teams both took first place in the DIII Elite Indoor Championships hosted by the Knights at Hoover Fieldhouse. The Knights should have lots of momentum heading into the outdoor season which should feature an NCAA Championships.
The American Rivers Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship meet has been pushed back to Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7. The format for this year’s league meet has changed as the entire women’s competition will take place on Saturday and the full men’s schedule will happen on Sunday. The split was done to accommodate CoVID-19 protocols.
Both men’s and women’s championships will take place at Hoover Fieldhouse on the campus of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Action starts both days at 10 a.m. for the pentathlon.
Central is hosting Simpson College and Luther College Saturday in a triangular at H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse, starting at 12:30 p.m.
