PETAWAWA The federal government is investing nearly $3 million into a project that is intended to convert waste into renewable energy in the Town of Petawawa.
The announcement was made on March 1 by the Parliamentary secretary for the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Neil R. Ellis, on behalf of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson. The federal government is investing approximately $2.7 million, and the Town of Petawawa is contributing another $2.7 million to the project in which the town will upgrade its digesters to divert food waste from landfills by turning it into biogas, helping process more organic waste to generate electricity and supply energy to the town’s wastewater treatment plant.
