Ohio University students learn the skills to bring innovative ideas to life through the University Innovation Fellowship.
Managed by the OHIO Center for Entrepreneurship, fellows learn how to create positive assets on their home campus. Student leaders have the opportunity to influence the university community as they put their ideas into action.
The University Innovation Fellows program is run through Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design. The goal of the national program is to ensure that students gain the attitudes, skills and knowledge to contribute to the economy.
Art professor and student create illustrated children’s book Published: February 24, 2021 Author: Jordan Schmitt Ben Siegel Ohio University student Callie Smith and Professor David LaPalombara collaborated on the illustrated children s book Fescue: A Brave Blade.
Professor David LaPalombara fondly recalls the exciting stories his father, Joseph, would tell his three children on long car rides. Fascinating tales with dynamic characters, the children would listen intently as they traveled to their destination.
“When we were kids on long car trips, usually to Maine, we would be bored and ask him to tell us a story and he’d make up these crazy stories. And Fescue was one of them,” LaPalombara said.
Student Climate & Sustainability Ambassadors promote environmental literacy and action Published: December 9, 2020 Author: Jordan Schmitt Ben Siegel Ohio University student Liz Myers (near) and Michelle Shively of Rural Action take water quality samples at Sunday Creek. Myers is also an OHIO Climate and Sustainability Ambassador and recently discussed her research on a podcast produced by the ambassadors program.
As the world becomes more cognizant of climate change, sustainability initiatives are growing. Ohio University’s Climate and Sustainability Ambassadors, a program launched in March 2019, aim to improve climate literacy among students on and off campus. Student ambassadors educate peers about sustainability and enact change throughout the Athens community.
