SPENCER - The Cherokee boys tennis team competed in the annual Lakes Conference Tournament here last Saturday, placing fifth behind champion Spencer, followed by Estherville-LC, Storm Lake, and Spirit Lake-Okoboji.
For the Braves, Jacob Kohn placed third in First Flight Singles, earning Honorable Mention All-Lakes Conference in the process. Jacob Friedrichsen was fifth in Second Flight Singles.
Jacob Hodgdon and Will Lugar placed fourth in First light Doubles, and Andrew Creel and Cael Lundy finished fifth in Second Flight Doubles.
Jacob Kohn used the windy conditions brilliantly in the first match to pull off the major upset of the day with his 6-5 (7-4 tiebreak) victory over Storm Lake s highly regarded #1 player, noyed Cherokee coach Dave Zelle. He kept keeping the ball in play, while his opponent kept trying to overpower him. It was testimony to what Jacob is capable of with just a little more belief and self-confidence.
