Huawei Technologies Co (華為), its spinoff brand Honor Terminal Co (榮耀) and Lenovo Group Ltd’s (聯想) Motorola have introduced plans for new foldable phones, betting on the nascent form factor to win over the ultra-competitive Chinese market.
Each firm is billing its upcoming device as a top-of-the-line handset, with Huawei pricing its P50 Pocket at 8,988 yuan (US$1,410), Honor calling the Magic V its first foldable flagship and a Lenovo executive poking fun at Motorola’s third attempt at a Razr clamshell handset.
Huawei is selling its foldable device in China after announcing it in a streamed event on Thursday.
The smartphone market is
Qualcomm Inc on Tuesday unveiled a new 5G smartphone chip for premium Android phones, aiming to deliver a better connectivity, photography, artificial intelligence, gaming, audio and security experience for users.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, released at Qualcomm’s annual tech summit in Hawaii, supports millimeter wave (mmWave) and sub-6-gigahertz technologies.
It also upgrades key features such as 8K HDR video capture on smartphones, the company based in San Diego, California, said.
Qualcomm expects new smartphones featuring the chip to hit the market by the end of this year.

HONOR has claimed that the upcoming
Magic series will surpass the likes of HUAWEI s P and MATE series. With that statement, it makes us wonder even more about what kind of smartphone that the brand will make after leaving HUAWEI. Today, it is reported that other than the Magic series, HONOR will also be bringing the high-end Digital series smartphones to the market in its comeback.
Besides that, the smartphone manufacturer has also claimed that the new smartphones will become the new benchmark for global smartphones. It is said that they will be the flagships of all-around technology and also feature aesthetic design.
