It was the last question he needed to answer in  a quiz. We told him about the disastrous fires in the 1700s which destroyed most of the town and that the Shambles, which was in the middle of the High Street alongside the Dolphin, had been removed. Later he emailed to say that he had won the competition. Most people had answered rope making, which was the case in Bridport, but not in Honiton. He had successfully answered, ‘removal of the Shambles’.
