The Ontario County Board of Supervisors met for a regular meeting on April 1, 2021. During the meeting, the Board continued its long-standing process of blocking resolutions into groups for consideration. The Board considered and unanimously approved 39 resolutions without discussion or debate. The Government Operations and Insurance Committee moved five resolutions to the full Board for consideration. The first Resolution authorized acceptance of a $91,912.47 grant from the New York State Board of Elections. These grant funds were from the Cybersecurity Remediation Grant Program for program costs running from December 21, 2019, through December 31, 2021.

Great Red s Inside the Moon alternates between mellow and mind-blowing

click to enlarge I shouldn’t be surprised at how quickly Great Red’s third EP “Inside the Moon” grabbed me with just one listen. The band’s outstanding indie-pop pedigree and presence assure a quality ride around the turntable, unfettered. Led by vocalist-rhythm guitarist and songwriter Zach Kochan, Great Red includes lead guitarist Mark Bamann, Ryan Yarmel on bass and background vocals, drummer Andrew Tachine, and Will Smillie on synthesizers. I immediately fell in love with the Rochester quintet’s indebtedness to Matthew Sweet and sparing use of pop elements. The music’s mostly mellow, with a few dynamic turns to punch things up. A prime example is  Bamann’s mind-blowing guitar solo on the closing track “Your Light.” You may just have to wipe your brains off the wall afterward.

Canandaigua Lake resident promotes LED flares to protect Finger Lakes

MPNnow GORHAM Selling flares for the annual Ring of Fire used to be a fundraiser for the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association. In 2017, the organization decided that selling the chemical-laden pyrotechnics that light up the shoreline around the lake by the thousands each year didn’t smell right for an organization dedicated to lake health.  Problem was, putting an end to the fundraiser didn’t put an end to sales. There are still plenty of places to buy the chemical road flares that sizzle, fizzle and light up the shoreline with a fiery glow for the annual end-of-summer celebration. That’s where Greg Talomie comes in. A longtime Canandaigua Lake resident, Talomie, a retired electrical engineer, saw interest in finding a healthier alternative. But something more had to be done.

Crappie and Sunfish Regulation Changes Proposed by New York

Crappie and Sunfish Regulation Changes Proposed by New York More fishing regulations are being proposed by New York s DEC. Under the new management plan, anglers would see an increase in size limits and a reduction in the number of Sunfish and Crappie you could keep. The Sunfish and Crappie Management Plan is intended to provide sustainable and unique fishing opportunities for several popular panfish. In addition to Sunfish and Crappie; Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, and Redbreast species would also be included in the proposed changes. The plan was compiled with input from fishery managers, the opinions of New York anglers, and some scientific findings. The plan suggests lowering daily harvest limits and increasing minimum size limits. Here some specifics outlined in the plan:
