Australia’s Judicial Impartiality Consultation Paper released
Today the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) released aConsultation Paper for the review of Judicial Impartiality, and is calling for submissions on its questions and reform proposals.
In Australia, judicial independence and impartiality are seen as fundamental to the common law system of adversarial trial, to the exercise of judicial power under the Australian Constitution, and to upholding public confidence in the administration of justice.
TheTerms of Referencefor this Inquiry ask the ALRC to consider whether:
the law actual or apprehended bias relating to judicial decision-making is sufficient and appropriate to maintain public confidence in the administration of justice;

A South-West based socio-political group, Afenifere has denied endorsing the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu or any aspirant for the 2023 presidential election.
Recall that the leader of South West Agenda, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, in a statement on Tuesday claimed his group secured the support of Afenifere for its candidate during a visit to Pa Reuben Fasoranti, erstwhile Afenifere leader.
However, Afenifere in a statement by its Director of Communications, Sola Lawal on Wednesday denied endorsing any candidate.
Lawal stated that the group is still mourning the demise of its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, adding that all engagements were also suspended in honour of the deceased.

Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN), has kicked against the exclusion of the party’s name from the list of the political parties that will participate in the forthcoming local government election in Oyo State.
DAILY POST gathered that Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has fixed May 15th as the date for the local government election in the state.
Our correspondent learnt that OYSIEC did not include the name of SPN in the list of the political parties that will participate in the election.
SPN in its reaction, described the exclusion of the party’s name as an act of hypocrisy.

A man Oluwapelumi Fagboyegun has alleged that the Ondo State Chief Judge, Olarenwaju Akeredolu, detained him for three years for going to their father’s house.
Oluwapelumi who claimed to be a stepbrother to the Chief Judge made the allegation in two minutes, seventeen seconds video that went viral on social media.
According to him ” The Honourable Chief Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I am calling you to please rescue me from the hands of the Ondo State Judiciary that is being run like a family affair that if you don’t know anybody you can not get justice.
