The City of San Marcos Charter Review Commission presented an interim report to the councilmembers at their regular meeting Tuesday night, making some considerations including term limits.
The report was presented prior to a final report that will come out before Memorial Day; at that point the councilmembers will discuss and decide what items to put out to voters.
The commission suggested changing the term of mayor from two years to four years, with a limit of two consecutive terms; however, several councilmembers said they thought four years was too long.
The commission also suggested imposing term limits for councilmembers of three consecutive years, although a councilmember could sit out one year and run again.

The San Marcos City Council will consider approving a new lease agreement with the San Marcos Lions Club in their regular meeting Tuesday.
The City of San Marcos leases the facility to the San Marcos Lions Club Tubing Rental on a five year lease term. With the next renewal coming up in April, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board took the opportunity to look at the lease and see if they could get a better deal for the city, given recent budget constraints and increases to park fees.
After several Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meetings and a City Council work session on March 16, the proposed amended lease would include a funds donation from the concession stand at Rio Vista, the creation of a River Parks Improvement Fund, increased litter pickup times and including a lease renewal deadline of October 1 before the year of expiration.
